The WYO is a registered charity and places great emphasis on economy and financial responsibility for survival and future growth. The yearly operating funds are raised through the fundraising efforts of the WYO Parents’ Association, grants, corporate and private donations, concert ticket sales, and members’ fees. Through the extensive effort of WYO staff and volunteers, the orchestra is able to raise enough to offer each student a variety of venues for enriching their musical education through sectionals and concerts with well-known professionals as well as working retreats.
The String Ensemble, Dolce Musica and the Symphony Orchestra each perform at least 2 concerts every year–one in December and one in May including an annual December Gala concert where all 3 ensembles perform together. The WYO has a tradition of offering intensive workshops away from home, which is an important part of our yearly program, as they promote bonding and the essential spirit of teamwork among the musicians, while contributing invaluably to the musical development of the orchestras. Dolce Musica will participate in one weekend intensive in the spring and the members of the Symphony orchestra participate in two weekends away, one in September and one in late winter.
