Ensemble Dolce Musica (EDM) Musician’s Guide

Rehearsals

Unless otherwise noted, regular rehearsals take place on Saturday afternoon at Victoria Hall, located at 4626 Sherbrooke St. West.

Rehearsals begin promptly at 1:00 p.m. and end at 3:00. Players need to arrive at least 10 minutes ahead of rehearsal time in order to be warmed-up, tuned, and fully prepared to rehearse at 1:00 sharp. There is a 10-minute mid-rehearsal break.

Musicians will be advised by email of revisions to the rehearsal schedule or location. Each musician should ensure that his or her current email address is on file with the Orchestra Manager.

Practice

Musicians will be provided with a rehearsal schedule at the beginning of the session describing which music will be rehearsed at each rehearsal. Dolce Musica musicians should arrive at rehearsal with those passages prepared.

Attendance

All orchestra members should attend every rehearsal, concert, and workshop. Full participation by its musicians is critical to any orchestra’s growth and musical success. At the beginning of the school year, please review your schedules and work to resolve any conflicts early—with teachers, coaches, band and choir directors, etc.

Concert Participation Is Mandatory

Absence from rehearsal may be excused for a performance with another musical ensemble, a conflict with music competitions, exams, festivals, etc, or a serious illness. In order for an absence to be excused, a parent of the musician must notify the Conductor prior to the absence. This may be done by email or by telephone. Contact information can be found at the bottom of this page.

Requests for special consideration may be made directly to the Conductor.

The printed music provided must be kept in a standard black, three-ringed binder (D-rings are preferable), clean and in good condition.

Musicians must bring pencil, eraser, and music to every rehearsal and concert.

Conduct

Whenever they congregate in the name of the WYO, the members of Dolce Musica are its reflection. Musicians are expected to act with class and composure en route to and departing rehearsals, concerts, workshops, and any social functions associated with the orchestra. All members are expected to contribute to an atmosphere of mutual respect, kindness, and support.
